David M. McNaghten, P.E. S.E. – President

As President of PMA, David’s responsibilities include managing the day to day operations of the office, as well as providing project oversight for many of the firm’s projects. David brings considerable experience in the design of office buildings, retail developments, and other commercial building structures. In addition, David has extensive knowledge related to the renovation of existing building structures.

His project involvement includes the renovation of two of Kansas City’s landmark historic buildings: the New York Life building and the Western Auto building, both on the National Register of Historic Places. Licensed in 27 states, David has designed large retail developments from Florida to Wisconsin, designed commercial office space, educational facilities, health care facilities, parking structures and government facilities throughout the country.

Prior to 1995, David held the position of Structural Project Engineer at Seiden and Page, Inc. and at Ellerbe Becket. His primary responsibility was the design and preparation of construction and specification documents. Projects included: the Oregon Arena Project, home of the NBA Trailblazers; design development for Kiel Arena in St. Louis, MO; the Gateway Arena in Cleveland Ohio; and as a member of the seismic response team hired by Los Angeles County following the 1994 Northridge earthquake. David has also been responsible for the structural analysis and design of commercial buildings and office towers. He has proficiency with all building materials including concrete, steel, timber and masonry.


Jeffrey D. Patterson, P.E. – Vice President

As Vice President, and co-owner of PMA Engineering, Jeff brings over two decades of diverse structural engineering experience ranging from office buildings and commercial retail developments to historic building renovations and heavy industrial structures. Jeff is currently licensed in 21 states and has complete responsibility for many of the firm’s projects. Jeff bases his work ethic on two simple concepts: common sense and honest communication. He adheres to the “Keep It Simple” approach and strives to communicate openly with our clients. His talents include a strong background in structural analysis and design, and he is also skilled with restoration techniques for aged and historic structures. Jeff has a wide diversity of experience with projects ranging from the award-winning Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Lenexa, KS to long-term structural maintenance work at several Midwest oil refineries.

Erin K. Rosenthal, P.E. – Vice President

As Vice President, and co-owner of PMA Engineering, Erin brings a decade of structural design experience ranging from health care buildings, low rise office buildings and government facilities to landscape/hardscape elements and existing historical building renovations. Erin is responsible for the complete building structural design, detailing, coordination and construction administration for our client’s building projects. Erin has an unteachable skill when it comes to relationships with new and existing clients.   She has the natural ability to make you feel you’ve known her for years, and she generates lasting relationships well beyond the project at hand. Erin has a strong background and is proficient in building design for an assortment of structures including steel, cast-in-place concrete, tilt-up concrete, masonry, wood and light gage steel. Examples include projects totaling over 1.1 million square feet of multifamily housing located throughout the country. Locally, in Kansas City, landmark projects showcasing her talent are the 1.1 million square foot, 45 million dollar, Corbin Park Lifestyle Development as well as the state-of-the art, 163,000 square foot EARP Regional Distribution Center

Together, David, Jeff and Erin have formed a team of like-minded individuals whose primary goal is to provide their clients with quality engineering services while maintaining sound engineering principles and attention to customer satisfaction. David, Jeff and Erin are personally involved with every project undertaken by PMA.
